Fantasy Treehouse Design

This was a developmental project for a client creating a cohesive concept of a magical treehouse, for a character in a World of Darkness campaign (pen & paper roleplay board game).

We discussed both the house the tree is behind (a large detached Georgian mansion, old but still seemingly centuries younger than the tree and treehouse), and the stylistic and cultural design of the structure, whether it would be growing out of the tree itself or integrated in a more dynamic or striking way.

The tree is a weeping willow, with wide, low branches and long leafy strands that hang down, so it was decided that the treehouse would incorporate the branches through its architecture, having them pass through the building itself and occasionally be used as furniture themselves.

The roof of the treehouse is glass and has a carved wood pattern separating the panes of glass to emulate the shapes of branches reaching over the canopy, and a magical green fire that's used for certain ceremonies and means of communication is situated in the center of this room. The overall layout emulates a crescent moon, with the kitchenette and resting area/library situated on the perimeter whereas the central Den takes up the majority of the space. A balcony with golden embellishments surrounds the entire structure, and a simple, mundane ladder reaches up to the entrance from ground level.
